Quick answerA multiport valve (MPV) controls a pressure filter from a single handle: Filter, Backwash, Rinse, Drain, Recirculate and Closed, plus a brine position on softener valves. Filtsap supplies top-mount and side-mount manual multiport valves and automatic timer or meter-based control valves in 1", 1.5", 2" and 3" sizes for FRP sand, carbon and softener vessels.

Choose the valve by vessel size and flow. A valve that is too small restricts backwash flow, so the media never cleans properly and filter runs get shorter.

Each position is explained step by step in our multiport valve positions guide.

FAQs

Which multiport valve size do I need?

Match the valve to the vessel opening and the flow, including backwash flow. As a guide, 1" suits vessels up to 14" diameter and 3" suits 36" to 48" vessels.

Why is water leaking to drain in the Filter position?

Usually a worn spider gasket inside the valve. We supply replacement gaskets and complete valves.

Can I convert a manual filter to automatic?

Yes. An automatic control valve with a timer or flow meter can replace a manual multiport valve on most FRP vessels.
