Quick answerAn industrial water softener removes calcium and magnesium hardness by ion exchange, so boilers, heat exchangers and process lines do not scale. Filtsap builds manual and automatic softener plants in FRP pressure vessels with cation resin, distributor, multiport or automatic control valve and brine tank, from about 1 to 25 m³/hr per vessel, in single or duplex (twin) configuration.

A softener is sized on two things: how much hardness it has to remove between regenerations, and the flow it has to deliver. We size resin volume from your hardness and daily water use, then pick a vessel that delivers your peak flow.

FAQs

How is softener capacity calculated?

Soft water per regeneration = resin litres × resin capacity (about 57 g per litre at a standard salt level) ÷ hardness in ppm. The table assumes 300 ppm hardness.

Manual or automatic softener?

Manual is lower cost and suits plants with an operator. Automatic regenerates on a timer or after a set volume, which avoids hard water slipping through.

Does a softener reduce TDS?

No. It swaps hardness for sodium, so TDS stays about the same. Use RO or a DM plant to reduce TDS.
